If you live in King County you can tune into KCTV, Channel 22 on the Comcast Cable service and watch "Cascadia: The Hidden Fire" this coming Sunday and Monday nights. See link below for details. This is an extremely well done documentary that will air l ater in the month and in June on regular broadcast channels.

Then watch the NBC mini-series, "10.5" and recognize that this disaster movie is not based on science.

An earthquake of unparalleled enormity causes mayhem and destruction up and down the West Coast, toppling Seattle's Space Needle, ripping apart San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge and severing the western edge of the country from the mainland.

That's the premise of a four-hour miniseries called "10.5" . featuring a fictional University of Washington seismologist as a cen tral character . that NBC has scheduled for May 2 and 3.

Regional Hospital Exercise

The next Regional Hospital Exercise will be Thursday, May 13, 2004. Medical Services Team volunteers are needed to staff many of the healthcare agencies in Western Washington.

The scenario will involve multiple events, including an infectious disease component, and several terrorist incidents, over an approximate 4 hour period. Hospitals, health departments, blood banks, and emergency management agencies in the six Homeland Security/Bioterrorism Districts will be participating.

Volunteers wishing more information or to participate should contact Medical Services District Emergency Coordinator, Marina Zuetell, via this Web page. See Contact button on the Menu. She will connect you with the local exercise coordinator in each district.

Watch for more information as the exercise gets closer.

Earthquake Drill

April 22 is the annual State Employee "drop, cover and hold" earthquake drill - between 0945 and 1000. Although most of us won't be involved in this short but important drill - this is an excellent time to review with our families, what to do in case of an earthquake. By the way... does your family have a pre-arranged gathering point, in case of a wide spread emergency?
